Spring Break

So, my spring break ended a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I'd do a post on what I did, and any recommendations that I have. Over spring break, I went on a road trip with some friends and family through Charleston and Beaufort (South Carolina) and Savannah and Atlanta (Georgia). We flew to Charleston, and then drove in a rented car for the rest of the week, and then took a plane back home from Atlanta, which was the last destination of the trip.

Savannah, GA

Charleston:
We spent about 2 1/2 days in Charleston, however, we didn't see everything there was to see, so I'd suggest going for longer. We rented an apartment about two blocks from downtown, and as it turns out, there were three creepy, abandoned houses on our street. When my sister and I went up to our room, there was some kind of bug/insect there (because it just had to be in OUR room and no one else's) which looked like a giant flying cricket, which my dad killed, but not before both of us had a little panic attack. Except for that, our days in Charleston went pretty smoothly. I'd definitely suggest going to the following-

  • a city tour
  • Fort Sumter
  • Waterfront park
  • French quarter
Beaufort:
Many people don't know what or where Beaufort is. It's on the south eastern most tip of South Carolina. Last year, Beaufort was named "Best Small Town in the South". I would, however, be smart and plan at least a full day there, because we didn't, and barely did anything except go to a museum and eat. Be sure to check out these places-
  • the waterfront and marina
  • downtown
  • visitor's museum
Savannah:
Savannah was by far my favorite destination on the trip. It was charming, clean, and with a beautiful waterfront. We spent a few days there (stayed in a motel), and each one was filled with plenty of activities. Except for putting some activities and places below, I'll also add some great food options-
  • waterfront (my favorite place that we went to there btw) and WW2 memorial
  • downtown
  • walk around in some of the mini square parks that they have
  • horse carriage tour
  • old-town trolley tour of the city
  • Vic's on the River has some pretty amazing hot chocolate and desert
  • Two Cracked Eggs had some of the best food that I ate on the trip
  • at least one of the many amazing ice-cream places that they have
  • Savannah Haunted Tours- one of my favorite activities of the trip cause it was so much fun
Atlanta:
Atlanta was the most modern place that we went to over spring break. We stayed in a Motel 6. Unfortunately, we didn't plan very well (and only spent about 2 1/2 days there), and there was some really cool stuff that we didn't get to do. Here's some things to do there (some of which we didn't)-
  • World of Coca-Cola
  • visit the Olympic park
  • go on a city tour
  • College Football Hall of Fame
  • Civil Rights Museum
  • go on a tour of the CNN Headquarters
  • Georgia Aquarium
  • Gone With the Wind tours and the house of Margaret Mitchell

Just a few reminders and tips

  • CHECK THE FORECAST AND TEMPERATURES WHEN PACKING
We didn't and came unprepared, thinking it was gonna be super warm. It wasn't.
  • Really look into what there is to do in each city so that you know how much time to spend there
We didn't, and we regret it.
  • If you're flying home from the Atlanta airport, do keep in mind that it is the busiest in the US, and maybe even the world. Come suuuuuuuuper early, or you might miss your flight.
We were running so late that boarding had already begun while we were still getting our bags checked. Also, our flight was overbooked so we were all separated from each pther in some seats scattered across the plane.

Thanks, and that's all!
